Please be kind. This website was created and is run by one person with the kind support of the John Dewey Alumni Association.. I can only post the documents that I have either found or have been given to me. I truly appreciate all of the donations. Please understand that your yearbook was not intentionally omitted if it is not on the site.. I borrowed and scanned some yearbooks, but do not have access to the ones that are not on the site. I am happy to accept scanned files and will post them. I apologize for some of the quality issues. The scanning was done a long time ago when technology was different.
Enjoy your visit!

John Dewey High School in Brooklyn New York, celebrated its 40th Anniversary in September of 2009. In the Fall of 2014, and celebrated its 45th in June of 2015.
Fifty four years ago the doors of the school opened to the first class in September of 1969. Since then, many students have attended the school and many teachers have taught at John Dewey High School. It was a very special place where creativity thrived, students learned to think independently and took an active role in their education.
The educational program at John Dewey High School has evolved to meet the needs of the current student body. Teachers are encouraged to be creative and the program is growing to include more fine arts as it did in its early years. The Culinary Institute's facility has undergone a major renovation. Dewey has survived as one of the few large high schools in New York City.
This site is a place where one can explore the history of John Dewey High School: the documents that were written before it was built, the early documents pertaining to the planning and the cost of the school; the programs and memorabilia that werre donated by former students. There are videos of people who were instrumental in planning "The New School" and those who attended in the early days of John Dewey High School. The videos provide a window into the past of an experiemental high school that was established as modern model.
There are issues of many different student newspapers, photographs and other Dewey memorabilia that will spark your interest.
Thank you to all of the people who have donated their Dewey memorabilia. This site never would have been possible without your generosity.
The Archive will accept donations of documents or memorabilia related to John Dewey High School. The donations can be electronic or sent through the mail. If you have donations, please contact me at this email address: jdhsarchives@gmail.com.
